The North Coast Limited (NCL) emerged in 1900 as a response to the growing demand for transportation options to the majestic Pacific Northwest. Operated by our predecessor, the Northern Pacific Railway, the NCL offered adventurers a scenic route to iconic locations like Yellowstone Park and the Rocky Mountains.
Though the NCL was initially a seasonal service, its popularity led to year-round operations. In the 1950s, the train received significant upgrades, including Vista-Dome cars that offered panoramic views and its iconic Traveler’s Rest buffet lounge cars, offering for a luxurious and unforgettable rail experience.
The NCL was one of the oldest named passenger trains in the country before it was discontinued in 1971. Today, its memory lives on, cherished by rail fans and enthusiasts.
