In a gesture of thanks to all military veterans for their service, volunteers placed memorial wreaths on the graves of U.S. military veterans on National Wreaths Across America Day, December 16.

Wreaths were placed this year for the first time in Whitefish, Montana. BNSF’s Dustin Wegner, a signal electronics technician, veteran, and vice commander of the local VFW Post 276, helped obtain sponsorships—including from BNSF—to purchase wreaths for 360 veterans’ graves.

This past year, BNSF and J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc., teamed up to move 46 loads of wreaths (totaling more than 314,600 pounds) nationwide and free of charge, up from 35 loads last year.
